SNAPP is designed for children living with Neuro Diversity. We are a judge free safe environment where our children are free to be themselves, and our families are free from educating society and advocating for their child. It has developed into a wonderful community where many friendships are formed for everyone involved.
Predominantly our kids ages range from 5-10, but age does not have a lot of relevance with our children, and if a program has availability – a free trial will always be given.
We also incorporate ASD teenagers (12+) to assist our children as mentors and junior coaching assistants, making SNAPP a holistic avenue of self-development for young people living with Autism.
SNAPP programs are managed and run by parents of children with Autism, with support from our participant clubs’ coaches and administrators.
We follow this model because in our experience there is no better expert of autism that someone who has cared for autism 24/7.
Our Paediatric Occupational Therapist, Neil Dinning has advised and overseen activities to ensure that we are incorporating as many therapeutic techniques as possible.
Towards the end of each term, we also begin to introduce a social focus and develop team-building skills.
Parent participation is certainly encouraged as much as possible (especially in the beginning) and this is a wonderful way for you to meet your fellow Neuro Diverse families.
The parent coach also has the experience and confidence to assist your child to give you some respite, if you prefer, though parent participation is certainly encouraged and highly appreciated.
While offering respite and socialising for parents, we do request you to stay within sight of their child and stand ready to help if required.
